PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is qualified. Apparently the right wing knew about this in advance and are flooding the voting with YES votes.
The poll will be reported on PBS and picked up by mainstream media. It can influence undecided voters in swing states.
Please do two things -- takes 20 seconds.
1) Click on link and vote yourself.

2) Then send this to every single Obama-Biden voter you know, and urge them to vote and pass it on.
The last thing we need is PBS saying their viewers think Sarah Palin is qualified.

Not sure that there are enough people who read this to make it worthwhile, but if it manages to dig up some volunteers, that is a bonus.
We still need volunteers to run some of the West Coast Boardgame Championship event at ConQuest SF this year. We also need some additional volunteers to staff our Board Game Lending Library. For more information, please see this thread on the BoardGameGeek forums. Volunteering for a minimum of 6 hours earns you a free badge to the convention.

Well, the Governor did it. He issued an Executive Order that cuts most state employees pay to the Federal Minimum Wage in the absence of a passed budget. Being a state employee, this will definitely affect me, although my credit union will probably loan me the difference, should the order actually take effect.
However, that is doubtful, because the State Controller, John Chiang, in a very well written letter has said that he will not comply with the order. He has clearly stated his reasoning. He even states that parts of the Governor's order are contradictory.
The Governor has said he will sue the Controller if he does not comply with the order, but I'm not certain that the Governor has legal standing until the checks are actually issued for the full amount in defiance of that order.
Of course, this could all be mute if the Legislature manages to pass a budget before August paychecks are issued. (It could happen.)

Here is an announcement I am forwarding from the ConQuest SAC Yahoo Group.
This is an announcement for ALL people interested in ConQuest SAC next year.
We will be having a ConQuest SAC meeting at 2pm on Sunday October 29 at the Rancho Cordova Marriott Hotel.
The Agenda for this meeting will be:
1) Introduce the Staff to everyone
2) Announce the major events at ConQuest SAC
3) Learn about volunteer opportunities at ConQuest SAC
4) Receive flyers and posters to distribute
5) Tour the hotel
The meeting should last about 45-50 minutes tops. After the hotel tour, all non-SrStaff members will be excused so that we may continue with a Sr Staff meeting. That meeting will last until 4pm tops.
The 2pm meeting is open to everyone, all we require is the courtesy of an RSVP via the poll on the conquestsac Yahoo group.
The Rancho Cordova Marriot Hotel is located at:
